In Bon-Repos, girls especially are subjected to extremely high dropout rates, a reality resulting in and reinforcing a female literacy rate of 57% in Haiti. The main reasons that cause girls to drop out are pregnancy, financial incapacity or excessive grade repetition. The Girls’ Scholars Program would provide not just exam preparation but also tutoring throughout the school year in order to ensure access to the tools, materials, support and technology necessary for success in secondary school. With a combination approach of infrastructure and programming, GSP would combat the factors which lead to high rates of high school dropout and allow the girls in the program to succeed

2022 UPDATE:

Tutoring Program of 75 Students: Saturday’s tutoring sessions started on January 15th , 2022 and continued throughout the year. Meeting with the students regularly was beneficial to them as they received support in their homework with a particular focus in reading, writing and math.

Recruited New Students: Twenty more girls were recruited from July to September 2022.

Projects & Activities Provided: Workshop on girls empowerment with AVE structura, Girls Who Venture bootcamps, and bookclub activities.

New Developments: Partnership with @bibexht, a tutoring app that allows the student to have access to online learning and studying that allows them to receive education regardless of social violence issues.

The girls continue to thrive amongst themselves and academically, performing well on national exams and attending Universities on scholarship from Jou Nouvo donors.
