Location:

Busoga Region, Eastern Uganda

PROJECT TEAM:

Circle of Women

PARTICULAR NEED:

Due to a recent storm in the Bugweri District, the infrastructure of the Ibaako Primary School was significantly damaged, with the School’s modest toilet facilities suffering from foundational erosion, instability, and, in some areas, complete collapse. This has compromised both the health and learning of Ibaako’s students, particularly its girls and those of menstruating age.

CUSTOMIZED SOLUTION:

Construct a new toilet facility that will support the 652 students and 20 female staff members, as well as provide sanitary supplies for all, creating a safer, more hygenic learning environment.

ENROLLMENT:

652 students (484 are female)

AREA OVERVIEW:

The Busoga region of Uganda faces significant challenges in achieving gender equity, particularly concerning gender-based violence (GBV). While Uganda's constitution guarantees equal rights for women, and national policies aim to eliminate GBV, cultural norms and limited service delivery, particularly in Busoga, hinder progress.

SUSTAINABILITY PLAN:

Proper sanitation is a critical component of health and safety in schools, especially for young girls. By funding this project, we’re helping to create a healthier environment where girls can feel comfortable to imagine their own futures and thrive in their education.
